The two ‘Carebus’ Accessible Cars are a real boon for passengers who use a wheelchair.
The rear ramp allows for easy access for those who need to travel in their wheelchair.
Special clamps hold the chair securely in place.
A seat belt is provided for the passenger.
Up to three further passengers may be taken at the same time.
The volunteer drivers are fully trained in the use of the clamps.
The vehicles can also accommodate those passengers who use mobility scooters – they need to be able to transfer to a regular seat and the scooter is stored at the rear.
A contribution of 70p per mile is requested towards running costs.
What one client says:
“I would say that Carebus provides an invaluable service for people like my mother who need a vehicle which can take a wheelchair. I cannot hoist her in and out of my car and I previously found it difficult to book a wheelchair taxi, and very expensive, which puts you off taking people like my mother out. But she needs to go out for appointments, and Carebus have got her safely and comfortably to and from the dentist, as well as enabling her to visit her granddaughter near Oxford, which was a wonderful trip for her. They would always be my first port of call when my mother needs transport. Their drivers, though volunteers, are all trained and courteous; nothing has been too much bother for them. I would certainly recommend Carebus to anyone in our area with an elderly friend or relative with mobility issues. I think you deserve support and I hope you get it.
