How you can help keep the wheels turning

We are always pleased to hear from anyone who feels they could help with driving or administrative duties.

Volunteer Driving Opportunities

No specific time commitment, just a willingness to be asked.

Opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives.

Be part of an enthusiastic team of volunteers.

The 2 Carebus minibuses can be driven on a D1 licence after training on the use of the hydraulic lift, wheelchair security, and a driving assessment

Your own car: Mileage reimbursed for the use of your own car. Insurer permission required (usually forthcoming at minimal or no cost)

The 2 Carebus accessible cars can be driven on a regular licence. Training on the use of the ramp and wheelchair security will be provided

Driving for Carebus is rewarding for everyone involved.

Here’s what one of our volunteer drivers says: “I’m a volunteer driver for Carebus. I usually do two or three jobs a month, when it fits in with other things I do. I either drive the 12-seater minibus, the accessible car, or sometimes my own vehicle. It’s great being part of the Carebus team. The smaller vehicles make a real difference to people, young and old, disabled and able bodied, wheelchair users …in fact anyone in the Eastern parishes of West Berkshire who for one reason or another cannot use other methods of transport to get to social, medical, or family appointments, or even get to the shops. The minibuses mean local community groups like WIs, art and music clubs, can travel together and no-one need feel left out. I’m sure you will get as much out of volunteer driving for Carebus as I do, so there’s nothing to lose and possibly a great deal to give and to gain. More drivers are urgently required – remember there is no regular time committment, just a willingness to be asked”

David.
